Ex-Ghanaian international goalie and current goalkeepers’ trainer of Accra Hearts of Oak, Abubakari Damba, has backed the appointment of James Kwasi Appiah as Black Stars coach.
Abubakari Damba was a guest on the Monday night edition of the Football Show on Joy Sports on Multi-TV.
The Hearts of Oak trainer welcomed the news, describing the appointment as “long over due.”
He added that Kwasi Appiah had, during his playing days and as an assistant coach of the Black Stars, proven beyond reasonable doubt his ability to effectively execute the mandate given him by the FA.
Damba however emphasized the need for collaboration between the powers that be and the coach to ensure mutual success.
“The coach must be given a free hand and players all have to respect him and support him. We have all been clamouring for a local coach; the dream is almost coming true.”
Touching on the remuneration for Kwasi Appiah, Damba felt that his (Kwasi Appiah) salary should be close to, but not in excess of the amount given expatriates.
