Isaac Vorsah is set for a lengthy lay-off after picking up a knee injury on Tuesday night during Red Bull Salzburg's semi-final defeat in the Samsung Cup.
Vorsah was named in the starting line as they lost 2-1 to FC Pasching at Red Bull Arena; their first defeat in a competitive match in 2013.
The Ghana defender sustained the injury after a challenge with Pasching midfielder Daniel Sobkova and required treatment on the sidelines.
The centre-back could not continue and was stretchered off the pitch with a knee injury to be replaced by Stefan Ilsanker.
Early diagnosis revealed a suspected cruciate ligament rupture which could see him out for close to six months.
Rell Bull Salzburg coach Roger Schmidt: "It would be a catastrophe if Isaac is out for half a year."
If the extent of the injury is confirmed, the 27-year-old will be unavailable for Ghana's 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Sudan in June.
